The author did a fantastic job of showing how Sophronia has grown through her manners and mutiny at the finishing school, although it seems only a couple years at most have passed.
Like the last couple of books in the series, the first half of this one dragged. On whose side is the ever-stylish vampire Lord Akeldama?

I have to reiterate how much I loved Sophorinia in this book, braver and more resourceful than ever before.
She makes her own rules and lives by them bravely, which is a quality I admire and hope some younger readers will adopt.
The school itself is as much a character as anything. manners and mutiny
It's a huge dirigible so we manners and mutiny all this steampunk stuff happening. In Manner's and Mutiny we get to explore so much more of the school and little nooks and crannies that we may have only gotten to see briefly if at all in the first few books.
I was so excited that there was a map in the front but it was manners and mutiny needed with all the exploring.
It's so complex and there are manners and mutiny many unexpected things. As Sophronia puts it "I should have known they were deadly as well as decorative. Everything at this school is both.
It makes for such an interesting world and Carriger perfectly builds it.
However, while the plot development was something I did love, it also was something I had an issue with. Like most final books in a series, it all really came full-circle and resolved questions and plot points that began in the first manners and mutiny books.
To make matters a little worse, Soap keeps showing up attempting to court her.
